Release note
Every test now costs 300 tokens, and plans are sized in tests
Every backtest now costs 300 tokens, whatever its length, however many shares it covers and however often it trades. Until today the price went up with the years, the number of shares and how often the test traded. Each plan now gives far more tokens than it did, so it pays for many more tests.
This is not a price cut for every test. Under the old prices 5 years of daily prices on one share cost 307 tokens, so that test is 7 tokens cheaper. Most shorter and simpler tests cost less than 300 before, and they cost more now. What a paying customer gains is the size of the plan, not the price of one test.
Tests that cost more than they did. A daily test on one share over 4 years 9 months or less: one year cost 187 tokens, and three years, which is what you get when you name no period, cost 247. A weekly test on one share over about 10 years or less. A test that rebalances monthly, or buys once and holds, over about 17 years or less: a 60/40 mix of two funds over 3 years cost 131. Almost every test that rebalances four times a year: the shortest of these cost 82. With more shares in a test, those lengths are a little shorter.
Tests that cost less than they did. A daily test on one share over 5 years or more: 10 years cost 457 tokens and 20 years cost 757. A daily test on a large basket of shares. A weekly test over more than about 10 years, and a monthly one over more than about 17 years.
What each level gets. The free trial is still 1,000 tokens. That is 3 tests, which use 900, and the 100 left over pay for research questions. Before, 1,000 tokens paid for 3 five-year daily tests or 4 three-year ones. The plans changed more. Starter is 25 tests a month, Pro is 50 and Enterprise is 150. In tokens a month that is Starter 7,500, Pro 15,000 and Enterprise 45,000. Until today they were 1,500, 5,000 and 20,000, which paid for 4, 16 and 65 five-year daily tests. The prices in pounds have not changed: £15, £40 and £85 a month.
Tokens you already have. Nothing is taken away and nothing is added. Your balance stays as it is, and each test now costs 300 of it.
Earlier today this page said something else. From 16:42 UTC on 11 October until this change went live, the site charged 100 tokens a test, this entry was titled "Every test now costs 100 tokens", the free trial read as 10 tests, and the plans were 2,500, 5,000 and 15,000 tokens a month. That was our mistake in reading the decision, not an offer. A test run in that time was charged 100 tokens and that charge stands. The old address of this entry leads here.
What you see. The pricing page and the plans in Billing say how many tests a plan pays for, with the tokens after it. The send button shows the exact cost before anything runs. The bar that warns you when you are running low appears when you have two tests or fewer left. The Strategy Agent asks you to confirm anything that costs more than one test.
Other prices are unchanged. Research questions, deep research, playbooks, Deep Dive reports, Prove-it and strategy refreshes cost what they did. A goal search charges each candidate a quarter of the price of a test, so a search of 24 candidates is 2,100 tokens, which is more than the free trial.
Refunds. A run you paid for at an earlier price is refunded what you paid for it.
