Release note
The free trial is now added when you verify your email
Update, 11 October 2026: every test now costs 300 tokens, so the 1,000-token trial pays for 3 tests, with 100 tokens left over for research questions. The prices quoted below (307 tokens for a typical backtest, and a trial that covers one or three of them) were the prices of their day. See our 11 October entry.
Update, 4 October 2026: the free trial is now 1,000 tokens, still added once your email address is verified. That covers about three typical backtests. Accounts that were already given 500 keep what they have.
The free trial is now 500 tokens, and it is added when your email address is verified rather than when you first sign in. 500 tokens cover one typical backtest (5 years of daily data on one symbol costs 307 tokens) with some left over for research questions. The pricing page works this out from the real trial size and backtest cost, so it can't drift from them.
Signing up with a password. We email you a link when you create your account. Opening it verifies your address and adds the 500 tokens straight away. Until then the Strategy Agent and Research Agent pages say "Verify your email to get 500 free tokens" and can resend the email, at most three times an hour. Resetting your password through the emailed link also verifies your address.
Signing up with Google. When Google tells us it has verified your address, your account is marked verified on sign-in and the tokens are added then. If a provider doesn't confirm the address, you verify it by email like everyone else.
One trial per inbox. Each verified inbox gets one trial. Addresses that deliver to the same inbox count as one: a +tag is ignored everywhere, and at Gmail so are dots. What you typed is still the address we use and email. The check is made on our server, so the trial can't be claimed from an out-of-date page.
Existing accounts. Nothing is taken back. Accounts that already received a trial keep every token they have, whatever its size.
